VISION

The role of the artist in society is continually evolving. No longer just a critic, provocateur, or solely someone who translates emotions into art, but also someone who offers creative solutions to societal issues. By deploying creativity within societal processes, the artist stands amidst society.

Creativity, previously mainly associated with art, is gaining increasing value beyond this domain, in the 'real world.' Trendwatchers emphasize the growing role of creativity in the job market, especially in times of increasing automation.

Changes in society, influenced by technology, politics, new knowledge, and crisis situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic, gentrification, and polarization, impact the dynamics of society both locally and globally. This also influences the role that the artist can play within this societal context.

WHO IS THIS ARTIST/AVATAR?

In my own art practice, I've evolved by expanding my skills. Alongside traditional tools like brushes and canvases, I began experimenting with technology, science, and social entrepreneurship. My goal was to make my art and creativity accessible to everyone, not just an elite in a gallery.

I work under the name Mr. Wolf, with is an fictive avatar, a crossover artist and social designer of the 21st century. I respond to crises and changes by making interventions, such as behavioral change. My focus lies in connecting people, actively participating in society, and bridging divides. But how can Mr. Wolf create space to address the crisis in art and society?

I work on two fronts:

A. Addressing societal issues through the method of Constant Nieuwenhuys.

B. Assisting artists in transforming and expanding their potential, alongside their traditional works with materials.

INSPIRATION

Society Design finds its foundation in the ideology of Constant Nieuwenhuys and his concept of New Babylon. In this utopia, all inhabitants were freed from traditional work due to complete automation, allowing everyone to develop as creative nomads. They meet in the fictitious corridors of New Babylon, collectively growing by solving problems together.

Although the physical long tunnels between cities as once conceived have not materialized (see photo), we are connected nowadays through digital highways, traveling from platform to platform.

Constant's ideals remain relevant and serve as a source of inspiration for Society Design. In our projects, we consider all participants as modern 'New Babylonians.' We believe in a human who is not static but constantly evolving. From there, we aim for playful co-creation.

This vision is applied within Society Design's projects, resulting in collaboration across disciplines, where everyone feels engaged and responsible.
